To enable the connection of unterminated sensors to the GrowData weather station via a 3.5mm stereo plug.
Introduction:
Apogee 421 series SDI-12 PYR and PAR sensors are being shipped unterminated and require an interface adapter to connect to the GrowData weather station. Below are the steps to correctly attach the senor to the interface adapter.
What you will need:
- Small Phillips head screwdriver
- Wire cutter
- Wire stripper
- TBS03 SDI-12 addressing tool
Steps:
- Prepare the cable as shown
- Feed the cable through the external glands of the weather hub box as described in step 4.3 of the installation manual. Don’t tighten the gland nut up, yet. Pull a sufficient length of cable through the gland to allow easy access to the wires.
- Connect the individual wires to the adapter board as shown. Hand-tighten the terminal screws. Do not over-tighten as this can break the terminal off the adapter.
- Lightly pull on each wire with 2 fingers to confirm that they have been attached securely.
- Assign an SDI-12 address to the sensor as per Step 2 in the installation manual.
(SDI-12 address 1 for a PAR sensor, address 2 for a PYR sensor) - Attach the adapter to any port on the top PCB in the weather station.
- Pull out any excess cable through the cable gland and follow the tightening and sealing instructions in step 4.3 of the manual.
Repeat these steps for each sensor and securely close the weather station enclosure after your work.
