Purpose: The Scout app is used for simple centralization and recording of GPS tagged issues across the farm.
When: Whenever an issue needs to be logged or reported. You do not need to be connected to the internet to log jobs (if out or range, jobs will sync when internet connection is re-established).
Who: Available to iOS and Android users.
Note, this guide uses iOS imagery example.
Getting Started:
Note: Once you have purchased the Scout service, our team will get to work in setting up your farm behind the scenes. Part of this setup process includes creating your Farm Name (or Tenant), allocating your Users (and their email addresses), and customizing the 'Type', 'Status' and 'Priority' fields to suit your business. For any questions regarding this, please reach out to support.
Once the setup is complete, here's what you'll need to do:
1. Download the Scout app
2. You'll be directed to a login page, click 'Continue'.
3. At the bottom of that page click 'Sign Up Now' and fill in the details.
4. Log in to the app
5. A popup will appear, requesting the app use your location. Select 'Allow While Using App'.
Overview:
Once logged in, at the bottom of the screen you'll see a few options: 'List', 'Map', 'Cab Mode' & 'Settings'
The List page is an overview of all jobs on your farm which have been logged in the Scout app.
The Map page is an alternative way of viewing all jobs on your farm which have been logged in the app.
Note: iOS devices utilize apple maps, Android devices use Google maps.
The Cab Mode page is designed to easily log repeated or regular issues on the go. The categories on this screen are customizable.
The Settings page is where you'll see your specific user information, such as user name and email login.
How to log a new job:
1. Regardless of whether you're viewing in the list or map mode, to add a new job, select the '+' icon in top right corner of the app.
2. You'll then need to complete required fields for Type, Status, and Priority.
Note: These three fields are customizable on a farm level. Please reach out to support to add or remove categories.
3. Notes can be added to provide more details, however this is not a required field.
4. Once filled in, select Done.
Note: When you return to the list page, your job will appear in here. Or, when you return to the map page, you'll now see a pin dropped at the location for where your job was logged.
Alternatively, you could use the Cab Mode if you're on the go and wish to record issues quickly.
A circumstance when this option may be preferable, is if you're driving along recording a repeated issue and just need to log the location.
- To do this, click on the Cab Mode option on the main page
- Select the relevant template you wish to log your job against. In the example below, I've chosen the template in top left corner 'Crop (High)'. You'll see the tag at the top says 'Added Job'.
Note: In the image below, these are the templates that have been set up for my test farm, your templates may vary as these are customizable.
How to delete jobs:
1. Go to the List page
2. Press and hold the job you wish to delete
3. Select Delete Job when the confirmation prompt appears. The page will then re-load and job has been deleted/removed from the list.
FAQ's
Q. How accurate is the drop pin?
A. The drop pin is based off your phone's GPS capabilities, so it's as precise as your maps (generally accurate within 1 metre).
Q. If I'm actioning a task, how can I tell when I've arrived at the correct drop pin?
A. Open the task to view Job Details (either via the list or map page). Click on the map within the Job Details page, and directions to the drop pin will appear. Your position will be marked with a moving blue dot, therefore when your position aligns with the Job drop pin, you are in the correct location.
Note: Directions are based off streets and roads in Google maps (for Android) or Apple maps (for iOS).
Q. Do I need to be connected to the internet to record a new job?

A. Reach out to our support team to add or remove Users. If adding someone, we'll need to know their first & last name, email address and which farm/farms they require access to.
